When it comes to fire prevention and protection, safety is not something we can take for granted. In a “Different Way to Think about Safety” Jim Pauley explains that safety is a system – not a singular action, piece of equipment or event. To help various authorities keep people and property safe from persistent challenges and emerging issues, NFPA developed the Fire and Life Safety Ecosystem, an eight component framework. Time after time when we have seen calamities, we can trace the cause of those situations to a breakdown in one or more of the elements of this system. The ecosystem challenges professionals from across a wide spectrum of industries to work holistically, identify gaps, and prioritize issues in the interest of safety.
