The NFPA 13 sprinkler installation rules for exterior projections appear simple but have long been a source of confusion. This lesson will review the cases where sprinklers are required under exterior projections and those where they are permitted to be omitted. Topics will include: recognizing what building features should be treated as exterior projections and which should not; determining the combustibility classification of exterior projections; determining the use of the space underneath exterior projections.
